What is a Luxury Home? It changes from market to market, but the generally understood definition is a home that lists for and sells at a price that puts it in the top 10% of sales in a given market. In Fairfax County, the current “Luxury Home Market” consists of all home sales above $1.4 million. On the other hand, in Prince William County any home selling above $770,000 is considered a luxury home by the 10%-definition.The comparable figures in Loudoun and Fauquier counties are $1 million and $790,000, respectively. Since defining “luxury homes” with any precision is difficult, the phrase, “I know one when I see one” may be as good a definition as any.
