Springfield is an eight square mile Census Designated Place in Fairfax County with a population of nearly 32,000, a quarter of whom are under the age of 18. Fewer than half of Springfield residents over the age of 25 report having at least a Bachelor’s degree. At the time of the 2020 census, two-thirds lived in owner-occupied housing with a median value of just under $600,000. Housing styles are largely a mix of cape cod, raised rambler/ranch, and colonial. Housing prices in many older neighborhoods have been pushed well into the $700,000 to $800,000 range over the past four years with pockets of homes reaching into the millions.
